PlayStation: The Best Home Entertainment

We all must have played videogames as kids and must have so enjoyed playing them. So without going too deep in the technical details, let's understand what a videogame is from the viewpoint of those who get to play it. A videogame is an electronic game where the user or the player manages the action of their videogame character. A videogame console is generally the wooden box in which a display screen is fitted with an interface. Traditionally, a console is studded with a joystick and buttons. The number of buttons can vary as per the game and at times there are even vestigial buttons in a console. These joysticks and buttons have pre-assigned features for every game and pressing them in a combination and order makes the videogame characters perform different tasks. So for instance if it's a fighting game, the action of the videogame character is to move their hands and legs in fighting poses. These actions are done as a result of the combination of buttons pressed by the user and the joystick moved by them. Often, people also play videogames on their computer where they can assign certain keys from their keyboards to specific functions and the mouse acts as joystick.

However, as the time has passed and with the advancement of technology, there have been superb additions in the gaming experience. With big companies such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo making more and more technologically advanced videogames to get users' attention, the gaming industry has become a very big part of the overall electronics market. Thinking about the biggest names in the gaming industry, the first name that automatically comes to mind is that of PlayStation games. PlayStation has been smartly named the opposite of workstation. It was first released in Japan and then soon took the entire world's videogame lovers by storm. PlayStation crossed the 100 million users in October of 2005 and in doing so became the first and only videogame console to break the 100 million barrier.

For beginners, PlayStation games are games played in the console that is developed by Sony. Sony released its first ever PlayStation in 1994. These games are also called PlayStation 1 games. Since then, following the enormous success of such PlayStation games, Sony has released different formats and additions to PlayStation games. After the original 1994 release of PlayStation, Sony released PlayStation 2 games or PS2 in 2000, and that was followed by PlayStation 3 games or PS3 in 2006.

In the mid and late 90s when these PlayStation games first started being developed and hit the market, they differentiated their offering to their users in that they offered a significant betterment in the fields of graphic quality, response time, and visual environment over their existing cartridge counterparts from early 90s. One basic change that PlayStation games brought about was that with a PlayStation the cartridge was replaced by first CDs and now DVDs. With the popularity and success of these games increasing every day with hundreds of thousands of users, Sony had a tough task on its hand to match rising customer expectations and keep the PlayStation games improving in their user experience. However, since the 1994 release of the first PlayStation, Sony has been diligently working to bring about different innovative changes in their top PlayStation games to make their experience unique to their customers.

With the launch of PS2, the gaming industry took another big leap in terms of PlayStation's game play and processing power. PS2 saw the introduction of a CPU with the capability to manage 65+ million polygons in a second. PS2 was also studded with a modem and multiple USB ports to allow online play to its players.

Finally the continuous competition and market pressure from peer companies such as Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii resulted in Sony's 2006 release of PS3. With the release of PS3, Sony has arguably taken the market leader spot in the gaming industry. PS3 saw users getting some of the top PlayStation games with the unprecedented videogame technology enhancements such as bluetooth, a fully-functional web browser for a complete online gaming support, multiple USB ports, 3.2 gigahertz cell processor, gigabit Ethernet port, multiple profiles, Blueray DVD drive, WiFi, up to 60 GB storage, and HDMI support.

Talking of top PlayStation games, the list can be so crowded because there are just so many that are so popular such as, inFamous, Comet Crash, MLB 09: The Show, Killzone 2, Street Fighter IV, Prototype, ZEN Pinball, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Resident Evil 5, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Fight Night Round 4, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, Resistance: Retribution, Rock Band Unplugged, Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, Star Ocean: Second Evolution, and Patapon 2. This can be a never-ending list, really!
