History of world music and American music and it's facts

Academically, the study of the history of world music is termed as historical musicology. This is a subfield of the broader field of musicology that is the study of composition of music, performing music, reception of music, and also, its criticism over the period of time. So the history of music refers to historical study of any and all genre or types of music. In a more general sense, the history of world music encompasses music of a culture, the ideas and emotions that that music expressed, and about music players and composers from all different regions and periods.

Scientifically speaking, putting in accordance with the life and evolution history of human beings, music must have existed from 50,000 years ago. Studies show that introduction of music to human form would have been somewhere in Africa before humans began reaching for different parts of the world. It must have been at least by then that the human life knew about music. Today, music has evolved to become one of the fundamental elements of human life. Music is present in every culture that is known today varying between different factors of time, place and source.

Perhaps the most interesting and the mysterious chapter in the study of the history of music is the origin of music. Where did the music originate from? When did it first originate? How did it originate? There are innumerable unanswered questions regarding the origin or music that neither science nor any other field of study has been able to answer with an absolute certainty till date.

Going by what science has to offer, Charles Darwin had a theory that the origin of music was from the sounds that were made by human ancestors in their courtship period. According to Greek philosopher Theophrastus, however, the origin of music is explained by the entire range of emotions showed by humans but till date there seems to be no foolproof scientific explanation of the origin of music. Classical music has been categorized on the basis of the periods of existence from history in six different sections, Contemporary, Romantic, Classical, Baroque, Renaissance, and Medieval.

Dwindling down a little in the history of American music, it reflects America's population of multiple ethnicities and numerous styles. The Native Americans first inhabited the land that is the United States of today. Native Americans were also the first one to have played America's first music. However, from the 17th century when immigrants from all different parts of the world started coming to America they brought their new instruments and style of music. In doing so, all these people from different cultures became a part of the history of American music.

One area of American domination that's most commonly accepted in the world is American music. Most of the American music types such as Blues, Country, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock, are hugely popular and religiously followed around the world. Today, America has the biggest music industry in the world and that's one reason its music is so immensely popular and successful.

Perhaps the biggest factor of the success and popularization of American music is its diversity and huge range that it offers to the global listeners from all round the world. Back in the 50s and 60s the media explosion was spurred by the growing success of Rock and Roll on movies, radio, and television. Back then the Rock and Roll beat and its superstars had become the face of American music. While the 80s and 90s have been a rebirth of the impact of Latino music in the American music industry, Mexican and Miami influence is evident and can clearly be seen in American music of today.

The music of America is best characterized by the use of asymmetrical rhythms, long, irregular melodies, and syncopation. All these clearly reflect on the huge racial and cultural diversity that exists in the United States and the freedom of expression in the American lifestyle. There are, however, some important aspects of the music of America that owe their existence to African instruments and their form of techniques.

Music as an industry is about $40 billion globally and as much as $12 billion of it is in America with some of the major music companies of the world based in America.
